Of course, when everyone says their favourite film is Battleship Potemkin or The Third Man, what they really want to say is Lialeh. Lialeh (Light In The Attic) **** (4 Stars) was 1974's 'black Deep Throat', the first major black porn movie, and its Shaft-style soundtrack has for years been, I quote, "harder to find than a honky in Harlem". Copies have changed hands for $600. Bernard "Pretty" Purdie wrote, played and produced, between sessions with Curtis, Aretha, James Brown and the Stones. So it's not like he had nothing else to do. "Pink On The Inside", Black On The Outside!" Good heavens.
