Hot Retro Sound: Psychedelic Pop

Word on the street is that all the cool kids are listening to psychedelic rock (Exhibit A: a recent DJ set from URB cover star Danger Mouse that found him playing nothing but '60s freak-out music like Strawberry Alarm Clock). Seattle label Light In The Attic is also feeling the love, reissuing music from unsung '60s popsters The Free Design, whose touchy-feely-songs like "Kites Are Fun" conjure images of rolling "doobies" and running barefoot in the park. For the funky folk there's also The Free Design Redesigned series, with contemporary beatmakers remixing TFD tunes for the new school. Stones Throwers Madlib and Peanut Butter Wolf each take on a tune, as well as those kings of twee, Belle & Sebastian. Is a new Aquarius age just around the bend? One can only hope…
