Grandslam Magazine - Album of the Month V/A Wheedle's Groove: Seattle's Finest in Funk & Soul, 1965-75 Light In The Attic One hand on my heart and the other round my cock for Seattle's Light In The Attic label. I have been pedestal to the glory of their previous releases several times, but this new comp "Wheedle's Groove" they just got pressed is a ticket to the moon. I'm so chuffed with all this geographical funk compiling…Texas, Miami, the Midwest, and now way over there with Washington State. We got Patrinell Staten (oh snap, soulboys, something you recognize at last), all the Topaz label sides you'd pay over a thousand bucks for (Soul Swingers' "Ca-Ba-Dab" and Black On White Affair's rare 45 sides) plus a few that virtually nobody knew - like who the fuck were Broham? Beats me! They made a hot tune though! This, as they say over the pond, is "the shit". Twenty-one bangers and a stunning package, this is the kind of release that should make our less scrupulous reissuers pack up and live in a Travelodge. Unlikely though that may be. Go to lightintheattic.net and curse them as you do so. - Daddy Bones
