Wayne McGhie & the Sounds of Joy
Light In The Attic

10/10 Stars

Ohhhh yeah that's smooth. Yeah, that's so fuckin' smooth. Smoothed the fuck out, that is. Wayne was a Jamaican by birth, but came to be known as Toronto's foremost funk and soul man. That's right-Toronto. This, in fact, is widely recognized as the first Canadian soul/funk album. Maybe it's because Toronto was relaxed (boring?) but this is the slinkiest and mellowest soul I have heard in forever. He has an incredibly sweet vocal delivery, equal parts Al Green and Jamaican dude. Originally released in a very small run in 1970, it is a miracle that this is widely available now. If you like the aforementioned Al Green, it is a total "no duh" that you must get this. - ANGEL NELFI
